2018 San Rafael Classic Triathlon
Registration will open on January 1st 2018 at 12:01am Mountain Time.
Friday, July 13th
6:00pm Early Registration/Packet pick at the Huntington State Park Campground, approximately 2 miles north of Huntington, Utah on SR-10.
7:00 pm Pasta dinner and Music at the Huntington State Park Campground.
We invite all athletes and their friends and families to come out and enjoy our down home style cookin' with the fixins' prepared in our famous 3 foot wide dutch ovens!
Dinner is FREE for all registered athletes, and general admission prices are as follows:
- Adults ... $7.00 per plate
- Kids ... $5.00 per plate
Saturday, July 14th
5:00 – 6:00 am Packet pickup, timing chip pickup and body marking
6:15 amTransition area closes!
6:30 amRacing Starts!
Waves will start at 6:30am and all waves will be 5 min apart, in the following order:
- 6:30 am Olympic Men
- 6:35 am Olympic Women
- 6:40 am Sprint Men
- 6:45 am Sprint women
Duathlon and Relays will start in the distance and gender of your race, Bike/Run athletes will start by the official in transition after the first swimmers are out of the water.
Kids Race will start after all adult athletes are off the course (please read kids race details). Awards Ceremony will follow the kids race.
Swim: (Sprint: ½ mile, Olympic 1 mile)
Deep water wave start will begin each race in front of the dock. Wave starts will take place ~5 minutes apart starting at 6:30am with the first Olympic wave, Sprint waves will begin after the Olympic. Large orange swim buoys will be placed in a 1/2 mile diamond-shaped pattern, Athletes will swim counter-clockwise (buoys on your left). The sprint event will swim once around the buoys, and Olympic athletes will swim twice around the buoys.
Recommended but not required. Water temperature should be ~70F.
Bike: (Sprint: 15.5 miles, Olympic 31 miles)
Athletes will leave the campground and head left up the road to the turnaround. The road will be closed to vehicle traffic. Law enforcement will be present at road closures.
Sprint will do one loop, Olympic will do 2 loops.
Run: (Sprint: 2.9 miles, Olympic: 5.8 miles)
From the transition area participants will run out of transition and turn right into the campground. The run course is clockwise around the lake. Aid stations will be provided and will have water available.
Awards will be presented to the Top 3 Overall Male and Female in each event, as well as the Top 3 Male/Female in each age group category (includes relay, Clydesdale/Athena, etc.)
You will be body marked on your arms and legs, indicating your race number, race, and age on race morning. Body marking will take place at the packet pickup on Friday evening and Saturday morning at the Huntington Res.
Inclement Weather/Alternate Plans
In case of inclement weather or the need for alternate planning, the race directors reserve the right to modify or cancel any portion of the triathlon if weather conditions, water quality, or any other unsafe condition may compromise athlete safety.
Camp sites are free at the state park, call the ranger Jonathon Hunt 435-687-2491 to reserve your campsite. All sites now have hook ups.

Medical personnel will be on-site. Certified lifeguards will be present during the swim on watercraft and kayaks.
Friday, July 13th
6:00 – 9:00 pm: Packet and timing chip pickup at Huntington State Park
Saturday, July 14th
5:00 – 6:00 am: Packet pickup, timing chip pickup and body marking
Note: You MAY NOT pick up a packet/timing chip for another person. This can lead to timing chip switch, etc. You must pick up your own packet, no exceptions.
Per USA Triathlon rules, you MUST have current photo ID at registration. NO PHOTO ID, NO RACE!
At packet pickup, please have all team members present. You will not be given your race packet until all team members are present. Each relay team member will wait inside the transition area at your team’s bike rack location where you will transfer your timing chip from one team member to another. Each team will be issued one swim cap, one bike number, one bib number, and one timing chip. Each relay team (either 2- or 3-person) will be issued a single timing chip. The timing chip will act as the relay “baton”. The chip handoff will take place at your assigned bike rack location corresponding to your bike/bib number.
Swimcaps corresponding to your event distance will be provided at packet pickup. The issued cap must be worn during the swim. .
Electronic chip timing and results of the event will be provided by FlatIrons Event Specialists All participants will be timed and will be provided with their swim, bike and run splits, as well as their overall finish time..
There will be a single transition area. The transition area will be located inside the Huntington State Park

Aid stations will be located on the run. There will be an aid stations on the bike. Two water bottles are recommended.
